Alson Radiant Ceiling Heating

Alson Heating Foils are installed between the ceiling covering and additional thermal insulation. The heating energy is transferred from the heating foil into the ceiling covering and further evenly into the room.

Alson Heating Foils

The heating element of an Alson heating foil is a thin metallic foil that is tightly laminated between two plastic foils. There are fixing areas between the resistive modules and at both sides of the foil.

Principle of Alson Ceiling Heating

Alson Ceiling Heating Foils are installed between the ceiling covering and additional thermal insulation. The foils are fixed (e.g. stapled) in ceiling joists or fixing battens. The foils should cover approximately a half of the ceiling area.

Many Ways of Heating

Different combinations of ceiling and floor heating are available - before starting to design the radiant ceiling heating, have a look at some examples.

Ceiling Construction

The Alson Radiant Ceiling Heating is suitable with most ceiling constructions, in ground floor as well as in upper floors. Have a look at some construction drawings.

Choosing the foil type

There are two types of Alson Ceiling Heating foils available: The foils with 125 W/m² heating power are suitable for almost all ceiling materials. The foils with 150 W/m² heating power are suitable for high rooms or in case there is limited space available in the ceiling due to e.g. lighting or air conditioning. Both types are available with a modular width of 30 cm as well as of 40 cm.

Choose first the heating foil type according to the ceiling material table. If you can't find the data for the ceiling material you are going to use, ask the Alson distributor for the thermal conductivity of the material. The thermal resistance of the ceiling must not exceed:

         125 W/m² foils: 0,16 m²K/W
         150 W/m² foils: 0,13 m²K/W

Placing the foils

Calculate the required heating power separately for each room and choose the heating foils accordingly. Elfoil recommends the use of foils with a width of 60 cm, because they are easy to handle.

Start by positioning a foil in front of each window leave app. 20 cm empty place for curtain accessories. Then continue towards the interior of the room so that the ends of the foils are in line (for easier electric coupling). Note that a majority of the heating power should be close to exterior walls.

Do not place any foils over high cupboards or other fixed constructions as these prevent the heat from transferring into the room. Reserve enough place for lighting, pipes, air condition and electric wires. Open a floor plan of a house with Alson ceiling heating .

Installation of the foils

Have a look at the Installation Guide. and see how easy the installation of Alson heating is! Note that electric connections must be made by an authorized electrical contractor.

Control

Ceiling heating is controlled with a room thermostat that measures the air temperature in the room. If also floor heating is used, the best result is achieved with a combination thermostat, which measures also the floor temperature.
