Continuous floor heating with cables

Continuous floor heating with cables is easy and cost-effective. They can be installed in concrete, wooden and plasterboard floors with parquet, board, tile or plastic carpet covering.

Heating cables are suitable for new buildings as well as for renovation projects. A power of 80-100 W/m2 is necessary.

Handle the cables carefully during the installation. Do not use a vibrating concrete mixer. Fix the cables with plastic strip - not with wire. Do not walk on the cables.

Wooden floor

The heating cable is installed between the floor beams, preferably on a mesh. To cross the beams, cut slots and cover them with metal plates.

1.

Floor beams

  2. Thermal insulation
  3. Aluminum foil (improves the transfer of heat)
  4. Installation mesh between the beams
  5. Heating cable
  6. Floor boards
  7. Crossing the beams – a slot of 40 x 25 mm, covered with metal plate; check the strength of the construction
  8. Thermostat – if necessary, use overheating protection, max 80 °C
  9. Thermostat sensor placed in a closed tube (M20) halfway between two cable run

Plasterboard floor

The heating cable is installed between plasterboard layers. Plasterboard stripes are placed between cable runs protect the cables.

1.

Plasterboard layer (under the cable a continuous layer; on top of that plasterboard stripes)

  2. Heating cable
  3. Plasterboard stripes (fixed with screws)
  4. Grooves for heating cable – filling with plaster
  5. Leveling if necessary - leveling plaster to cover the cables
  6. Hard plasterboard. Tiles can be installed without plasterboard, if the floor construction is rigid enough. Plasterboard is recommended under plastic carpet.
  7. Moisture insulation (primer)
  8. Floor covering (ceramic tiles or plastic carpet)
  9. Thermostat
  10. Thermostat sensor placed in a closed tube (M20) halfway between two cable runs

Installation on existing concrete floor

The heating cable is fixed on the old floor base. A mortar layer is spread over it so that the cable is covered. Floor covering is fixed on the mortar layer.

1.

Old floor (check fixing!). Clean the surface of dirt and dust with soda or solvent. Plastic carpet must be cleaned and ground coarse. Tile floor can be leveled if necessary.

  2. Adhesion layer (thin-set mortar)- for plastic carpets app. 2 mm mortar, let dry for 24 hours
  3. Metal net, necessary only on a wooden floor. Fix with hot melt glue; on a concrete or tile floor, installation clips can be used
  4. Heating cable
  5. Leveling layer (thin-set mortar) to cover the cables
  6. Fix the covering - plastic carpet with glue, tiles with thin-set mortar
  7. Floor covering
  8. Thermostat
  9. Thermostat sensor, placed in a closed tube (M20) halfway between two cable runs
